Difference between Esri Legacy SDE and Esri Geodb ArcSDE

Hi,

My customer asked me about the difference between Esri Legacy SDE and Esri Geodb ArcSDE, when he wants to Reader SDE.

Hi, the legacy SDE format uses a C API that Esri no longer supports; in other words use at your own risk. The GeoDB SDE format uses an ArcObjects based API that is supported.

Also note that the Legacy SDE (called SDE30 internally) reader/writer has some particular limitations, search for "SDE30" on this page for more information:

On the flip side, in some instances it can be quite a lot faster than corresponding the ArcObjects readers/writers.
