I am trying to write out some text to a pdf and I keep recieving the error "Unsupported font family 'Arial'. Reverting to 'Helvetica'.   I receive the error regardless of which font I try to use.  The Pdfstyler shows all of the fonts installed on my C:\\windows\\fonts folder, but just can't seem to access them when the workbench is running.   Also, I don't even have Helvetica installed on my machine.  I am using windows 7 and FME 2012.  Is there a setting I need to change?

Hi,

you can set the true-type-font directory in the parameters of the writer.

If you set this to the c:\\windows\\fonts folder you get the correct results.

Kind regards

Thanks.  I thought there must have been a parameter I was missing.

The writer had some problems reading many some of the fonts in my C:\\windows\\fonts folder and was slowing down the processing as it was writing to the log.  As a result I just copied a needed subset of the fonts into a different folder and pointed the writer to it.

Hi @deanhowell,

This is a fairly old Q&A here, would you be open to posting a new question to the Forums and perhaps link it to this Q&A for context? It will have much better visibility and gather more answers.

Off the top of my head, I would expect the desktop answer to work for server as well. It might be good to give it a try as well to see. Thanks!

Hi @jovitaatsafe, this could be related to an outstanding problem - C102087: PDF writer cannot write Text features containing Japanese characters correctly (PR#60358). Is it progressing to fix?

Hi @takashi, oops this is a little embarrassing on our side. You are absolutely right, there is a bug report [FMEENGINE-37316] outstanding on the issue where setting the font type returns a warning about reverting to Helvetica.

I have made a note in the issue that users have been asking for it, and I will update this Q&A when the issue has been resolved. Thank you takashi for bringing this up! (@deanhowell)
